PSA moving its journals to open-access publishing platform, effective Jan. 1, 2020.
July 2, 2019
The Poultry Science Assn. (PSA) announced that it has entered into a new publishing agreement with Elsevier Inc. to publish its two scientific journals, beginning Jan. 1, 2020.
Concurrently, Poultry Science and The Journal of Applied Poultry Research will both move to Gold Open Access, with all future published articles and all archived articles to be shared worldwide immediately.
PSA is a professional, international organization consisting of approximately 1,800 members working in all aspects of the poultry sciences. Its members are committed to advancing the poultry sciences and the poultry industry through research and education. PSA publishes two scientific journals and is the premier publisher of basic and applied poultry research in the world.
The current publishing trend is moving strongly in the direction of open access as more and more journals and their authors are seeing the need to remove the “pay for view” restrictions of the subscription model. In addition, a growing number of research funding institutions and companies are now requesting open access to increase the availability of the research they choose to support financially.
In keeping with PSA’s vision to be the world’s most respected resource for poultry sciences, the PSA board recently approved the innovative move from subscription-based journals to an open-access publishing model, making all of PSA’s scientific articles freely available at no expense to the reader. Authors will realize the benefits of making their research findings more readily available, more citable and more applicable throughout the poultry industry.
Elsevier is among the largest global publishers of scientific journals, and especially important to PSA is its strong leadership position in the publishing of life science journals. Elsevier currently publishes more than 400 peer-reviewed, open-access journals and has transitioned many other scientific journals from subscription models to open access. Elsevier will be working closely with the PSA editorial staff and its current publisher (OUP) to facilitate a seamless transition of PSA’s journal collection and any journal articles that are being processed during this transition period.
