COOPERATIVE Ag Processing Inc. (AGP) announced May 17 that it will permanently cease operations at its corn processing plant in Hastings, Neb.
The plant had been on an extended shutdown since Feb. 1 due to what the company described as "challenging economic conditions."
Based on an evaluation of those conditions and the possible future of the facility, AGP decided that it would no longer process corn at the Hastings plant.
The company continues to operate its soybean processing facility, a vegetable oil refinery and amino acid production facility at the Hastings complex.
Company officials were clear that only corn processing will cease at Hastings, and the co-op's other operations will continue.
AGP, headquartered in Omaha, Neb., is the largest farmer-owned soybean processor in the world.
