Registration is underway for the Allen D. Leman Swine Conference, an annual educational event for the global swine industry. This year's conference, slated for Sept. 16-19 at the St. Paul Rivercentre in St. Paul, Minnesota, will feature sessions covering everything from new developments in African swine fever diagnostics and the value of manure for sustainable agriculture to grow-finish biosecurity and what's next for Proposition 12. 

The conference is internationally acclaimed for bringing science-driven solutions to the complex challenges facing the industry. Each year hundreds of participants from over 20 countries, including swine veterinarians and other professionals working in swine production and animal health management, attend the Leman Swine Conference.

Breakout session topics include swine mycoplasmas, secure food systems, gene editing, shared ecosystems of feral and domestic pigs, productivity in difficult times and discerning emerging diseases.

In 1974, Allen D. Leman, a new University of Minnesota Extension veterinarian, and Jim Hanson, director of the college of veterinary medicine's continuing education program, initiated the conference to present new information and discuss issues important to the swine industry. Leman understood how a university could influence practitioners and empower them to be leaders for the swine industry.
