The number of birds affected by highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has now surpassed 50 million birds after the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) confirmed Nov. 7 that another laying operation of just over 1 million birds has tested positive for the virus. The flock of commercial laying hens is located in Wright County.
