Northside Elevator hires Bill Weich

Northside Elevator has added Bill Weich, PhD, as dairy specialist to consult in areas key to performance, production, and farm profitability. Dr. Weich strongly emphasizes herd health and performance goals, which begins by reviewing dairy data then making science-backed recommendations. He utilizes advanced nutrition models to develop the most cost-effective ration that meets the needs of the cow and the producer. Through clarity and transparency, he also helps producers understand principles that lead to efficient use of feed budgets. In addition to consulting on specific herds, Dr. Weich will also be working alongside Northside teammates offering technical support for other operations.

Dr. Weich received his bachelor’s degree in animal science from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. His passion during undergraduate work was on transition cow feeding strategies that maximize calcium stability through calving. Dr. Weich then received his ruminant nutrition PhD from South Dakota State University. Extensive doctoral research focused on amino acid nutrition and fresh cow feeding strategies that promote an optimal start to lactation.

“Dr. Weich is an excellent addition to our dairy specialist team. His experience and technical knowledge will help Northside customers cost-effectively achieve performance goals and be better positioned for the future,” said Ted Brussow, president of Northside Elevator.

When not at work, Dr. Weich and his wife keep busy with their two young boys and enjoy living in western Wisconsin.
