The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC), organizer of the World Pork Expo, announced April 10 that the 2019 event has been cancelled as a preventive measure against a negligible risk of African swine fever (ASF). However, the live hog show portion of the event will still be held, leaders of the National Swine Registry, Certified Pedigree Swine and American Berkshire Assn. said in statement.
The groups said staff members are working diligently to confirm event logistics and details for the show, which be held June 2-8, 2019.
“As soon as details are confirmed, membership will be informed through official communication channels. We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding as the organizations work collaboratively to develop solutions,†they said.
Clay Zwilling, chief executive officer of the National Swine Registry, also provided an update on Facebook live regarding the announcement.
