Program aims to create awareness of bovine viral diarrhea in veterinary students and then cattle producers.

In order to create awareness of bovine viral diarrhea (BVD) in veterinary students, Boehringer Ingelheim announced the 2019-20 BVDzero Scholarship Programme veterinary student scholarship program.
Boehringer Ingelheim said it believes that such initiatives will help increase BVD awareness in general and, as a result, help reduce its prevalence.
The BVDzero committee, in collaboration with a representative of the World Association for Buiatrics, will identify outstanding veterinary students from around the world who can help address the ever-changing industry and the health, food and welfare needs of the veterinary community, according to the announcement.
The scholarship program will award 10 student scholarships of 1,000 euros each, Boehringer Ingelheim said, and each scholarship winner will receive free registration and accommodation at the upcoming 2020 World Buiatrics Congress in Madrid, Spain.
Selection criteria include:
Second-, third- and fourth-year veterinary students;
A passion for livestock, particularly for the cattle industry;
Demonstration of academic excellence, and
Demonstration of leadership and participation in non-university activities.
The application period closes on May 25, and award notifications will be issued June 3-7.
The winners will be selected by a World Association for Buiatrics representative and the BVDzero committee, consisting of experts from various countries.
