The U.S. Poultry & Egg Assn. (USPOULTRY) is hosting a Poultry Handling & Transportation “Train the Trainer” Workshop for poultry transporters and catch crews.

The program is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 7 at the University of Georgia Livestock Instructional Arena in Athens, Ga. The workshop offers a combined certification and “Train the Trainer” program specifically for those individuals wishing to become poultry handling and transportation certified trainers.

USPOULTRY said the program provides certification training for poultry transporters and catch crews. It was developed by a team of poultry scientists and veterinarians from Pennsylvania State University, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and transportation industry professionals and is managed by USPOULTRY. The training gives companies and contract crews and their employees an understanding of poultry welfare, good management practices, biosecurity and emergency planning. Attendees will also develop tools to train non-English-speaking (primarily Spanish) employees.

The workshop is limited to 40 people and costs $150 for USPOULTRY members and $300 for non-members. Submit applications, along with a letter of recommendation from supervisors, at www.uspoultryhandling.org.

For hotel accommodations, the UGA Georgia Center or the Holiday Inn are recommended.

USPOULTRY is an all-feather organization representing the complete spectrum of today’s poultry industry. Founded in 1947 and based in Tucker, Ga., its mission is to progressively serve member companies through research, education, communication and technical assistance.
