THE Scoular Co. announced Feb. 27 that it has expanded its presence in Illinois by acquiring the assets of Andres & Wilton Farmers Grain & Supply Co., including a grain handling facility in Andres, Ill.
Scoular currently operates four other grain elevators in Illinois, including a shuttle train loading facility near Waverly and a container trans-loading facility in Channahon. It also has a merchandising office in Chicago, Ill.
While terms of the transaction were not released as part of the announcement, former Andres & Wilton board member David Bettenhausen claimed, in a letter to the editor last summer criticizing the sale, that Scoular's winning bid for the facility was $2.4 million.
The Andres facility will become part of Scoular's North American grain marketing network of more than 70 offices and facilities in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The company said it plans to expand the location's container loading capabilities and increase its access to export markets.
