Michael Foods suing egg farm for breach of contract

Michael Foods Egg Products Co., a subsidiary of Post Holdings Inc., recently filed a lawsuit against Hawkeye Pride Egg Farms, alleging the farm breached a January 2014 contract because it isn’t meeting supply requirements.

Michael Foods is claiming irreparable harm and asking the farm to pay damages to cover the amount lost. The complaint was filed Monday in federal court in Des Moines.

Hawkeye Pride lost a total of 5.5 million hens and is just one of many Iowa farms affected by the avian influenza outbreaks.
