MICHAEL Foods Inc. has announced that its egg production and egg products subsidiary, M.G. Waldbaum Co., has reached an agreement to acquire Primera Foods Corp., which includes egg further-processing facilities in Altura, Minn., and Britt, Iowa.
Terms of the acquisition were not provided.
Primera and Waldbaum are "complementary" businesses, and the acquisition will allow Michael to expand its manufacturing capabilities and capacity, according to Michael chair and chief executive officer Jim Dwyer. The company will be able "to broaden its reach across North America, Europe and Asia," he said.
Waldbaum, headquartered in Wakefield, Neb., is the seventh-largest commercial egg producer in the U.S.
Michael, headquartered in Minnetonka, Minn., produces eggs and value-added dairy, egg and potato products under the Crystal Farms, Abbotsford Farms, Papetti's and Simply Potatoes brands. The company reported 2012 sales that totaled $1.856 billion.
