FOLLOWING a year-long construction project, Calcium Products' new production facility opened early last month and is now shipping product.
Located in Gilmore City, Iowa, the plant produces the company's pelletized gypsum product SuperCal SO4.
"We are very excited to have this multimillion-dollar, state-of-the-art plant operational," Calcium Products vice president of sales and marketing Craig Dick said.
He added that the company has worked through several years in which demand for the gypsum product far exceeded the supply available, and the new plant will help fill that excess demand.
The first loads of product left the facility during the week of May 20. The new plant more than doubles the company's production capacity.
SuperCal SO4 is a naturally mined gypsum that is pelletized in a uniform, dust-free, quick-dissolving granule. Calcium Products calls it the purest, most responsive product of its kind on the market, giving farmers the benefits of gypsum and a potent sulfate fertilizer that won't burn crops when applied in-furrow of or over standing crops.
In addition to the increased gypsum production capacity, Calcium Products also recently enhanced the efficiency of its existing SuperCal 98G pelletized lime facilities to improve the availability of the company's calcitic limestone product.
