The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is hosting an avian influenza webinar on Feb. 25. As part of Bird Health Awareness Week, several poultry experts from across the country will host a discussion about what avian influenza is, how it impacts different segments of the poultry industry and the surrounding communities, and how to prevent the disease from affecting U.S. flocks.

From December 2014 through June 2015, the U.S endured its largest animal health emergency to date, with more than 200 commercial and backyard premises affected with highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) across the country. The outbreak lead to the death of over 50 million birds. Recently, cases of HPAI were confirmed in Europe, Asia and Africa, and many poultry owners and producers are concerned and want to take steps to protect their flocks.

The “Defend the Flock: How Avian Influenza Affects Us All” webinar will take place on Thursday, February 25 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. EST. Register for the free webinar at http://bit.ly/BirdHealthWebinar.
