Dietary protein oxidation may limit nutrient digestibility in swine

Feeding oxidized protein products to growing swine may lower protein and fat digestibility.

Rendered products from the meat industry can provide economical quality sources of proteins to the livestock and feed industries. However, much like lipid sources, rendered proteins are susceptible to oxidation, yet the stability of these proteins is unclear, Iowa State University researchers wrote in the May issue of the Journal of Animal Science.
