Cattle producers see feed efficiency gains from Rumensin use

First approved in 1976, Rumensin (monensin) is a product that has withstood the test of time and continues to be widely used across the beef cattle sector.

For feedyards, a 3-4% feed efficiency improvement is common when Rumensin is used, according to Dr. Mike Brown, a technical consultant in feedlot production for Elanco Animal Health Inc. We caught up with Brown at the Cattle Industry Convention & NCBA Trade Show to talk about optimizing Rumensin in very specific applications, such as in starter rations, with certain classes of cattle and within seasons. We also talk management practices and other opportunities that exist.
