Online courses cover veterinary immunology and vaccinology.
May 10, 2019
The Center for Food Security & Public Health (CFSPH) at the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine has launched updated versions of two of its online veterinary immunology and principles of vaccinology courses.
“These courses are an accessible way to keep up with important advances in immunology and provide participants with an up-to-date understanding of how vaccines achieve optimal efficacy and safety,” course instructor Dr. Jim Roth said.
CFSPH said the online courses have short (5-20 minutes) video lectures and downloadable lecture slides and outlines. Participants can access the lectures and resources based on their own schedules anywhere with internet access. All courses provide Registry of Approved Continuing Education (RACE) Approved Veterinary continuing education credit. To learn more and register for the courses, go to the CFSPH website.
The basic course — "Introduction to Veterinary Immunology" — is designed for a general audience, such as sales representatives and support personnel, CFSPH said. It provides a brief introduction to veterinary immunology and vaccination in 4.5 hours of lectures.
Two advanced courses provide a timely refresher designed for animal health professionals, the center added. "Principles of Veterinary Immunology" provides an overview of veterinary immunology with a focus on infectious disease and covers recent immunology advances (11.5 hours of lectures), while "Principles of Veterinary Vaccinology" applies the principles of immunology to explain how vaccines can be tailored to provide optimal safety and efficacy for the diversity of animal diseases. The vaccinology course consists of four hours of lectures and covers recent advances in vaccinology, CFSPH said.
