Corn yield model aids nitrogen management

Using crop models to assist in nitrogen management decisions for corn production a win-win for agribusiness and environment.

With an innovative modeling approach, researchers set out to examine corn and soybean yields and optimal nitrogen fertilizer rates. In their study, recently published in Frontiers in Plant Science, they used a long-term, 16-year data set from central Iowa with a state-of-the-art simulator that modeled corn and soybean yields, improving predictions of optimal nitrogen fertilizer rates for corn.
