Kansas State offering bulk solids course

Kansas State University announced that it will offer a course on Pneumatic Conveying of Powders & Bulk Solids. The course will be held Aug. 13-16, 2019, at the Bulk Solids Innovation Center in Salina, Kan.

This course focuses on the design of pneumatic conveying systems and common pneumatic conveying problems and discusses solutions to these problems.

Participants will participate in the actual design of dilute-phase pneumatic conveying system following step-by-step procedures. Review the course schedule for a full list of topics covered.

Employees who attend this course will improve their ability to design, maintain and improve pneumatic conveying systems, understand advantages and disadvantages of the various types of systems, evaluate vendor options and optimize the performance of existing systems, the university said.

Those responsible for designing, improving or troubleshooting pneumatic conveying systems, such as engineers, operators, managers, technicians and research and development scientists and engineers, are encouraged to attend. The course is appropriate for new employees as well as those who want to increase their knowledge and experience.

Kansas State is encouraging employees in the following industries to attend: pharmaceuticals, plastics, chemicals, minerals, food and grains and feed.

By attending the course, participants will be able to:

  • Design a pneumatic conveying system, and select equipment;

  • Troubleshoot pneumatic conveying problems;

  • Understand the material properties related to pneumatic conveying, and

  • Understand the different types of pneumatic conveying systems and their applications.

Course details

Kansas State said participants are eligible for 2.5 hours of continuing education units for full completion of the professional development course.

An early-bird rate of $1,500 per attendee will be offered before July 15, 2019, and the cost is $1,800 per attendee after July 15. The registration deadline is Aug. 6.

The registration fee includes course instruction, materials and supplies, morning refreshments daily and lunch and afternoon refreshments Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

A discounted rate is offered for companies sending multiple attendees. A discounted registration rate of $750 is also offered to current graduate and post-doctoral students who complete a scholarship application form and submit proof of enrollment status.
