JBS Feed Solutions starts marketing plasma in Brazil

JBS recently announced the creation of JBS Feed Solutions, which has just received authorization from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock & Food Supply in Brazil to start marketing value-added products in its first unit located in Campo Large, Mato Grosso du Sol, Brazil.

The new plant produces plasma and red blood cells processed from adult cooled bovine blood, JBS said. These materials serve as high-nutritional value ingredients in the manufacture of poultry and swine feed, the company added.

The Campo Large unit, installed in a 4,000 sq. m area, is among the most modern in the world, according to JBS, and will meet 100% of the demand from the company's own units.

"With the qualification in hand, we will start marketing and expect to process about 4 million liters of bovine blood cooled a month by September this year. In addition, our expectation is to meet 100% of Seara's need by October 2018," said José Flávio De Toledo Usó, industrial director of JBS Feed Solutions.

The plant has the capacity to produce about 550 tons of red blood cells and 200 tons of powdered plasma per month.

In the last two years, JBS made investments of 45 million reals toward the creation of the company, which is part of the structure of JBS Novos Negócios.

The choice of Mato Grosso do Sul to host the first JBS Feed Solutions plant was based on the Brazilian state's relevant participation in cattle production and, consequently, in generating the needed inputs, including plasma and red blood cells, JBS said.
