Gold Star Feed & Grain, a wholly-owned subsidiary of J. D. Heiskell Holdings LLC, is acquiring Gramco Feeds. Gramco Feeds, located in Springville, N.Y., is a family-owned and operated retail and wholesale feed dealer and manufacturer with a focus on custom dairy rations.

Founded in 1911 as the James H. Gray Milling Company, the company’s name was shortened to Gramco Feeds in 1958 when Donald Mattison succeeded his father Eugene as the leader of the business. Upon Donald’s passing, his wife Virginia “Sibby” Mattison assumed leadership of the enterprise, and was subsequently the first woman to serve as president of the Eastern Federation of Feed Merchants. In 1987, Donald and Sibby’s son Bob took over as president and chief executive officer of Gramco. Bob Mattison crafted a 50-year career in his family’s business, moving its production site to a state-of-the-art mill in Springville and significantly expanding Gramco’s truck fleet to serve customers within a 150-mile radius of the plant.
