In marking its one-year anniversary as an independent, stand-alone company, Elanco Animal Health made note of its innovation, portfolio and productivity (IPP) strategy designed to broaden its portfolio and pipeline to bring new solutions to farmers, veterinarians and pet owners.
The company also announced an advocacy initiative aimed at advancing the well-being of animals, people and the planet.
“As we celebrate Elanco’s first anniversary as a fully independent, dedicated animal health company, we’re fulfilling the promises made during our [initial public offering] to customers,” Elanco president and chief executive officer Jeff Simmons said. “In my 30 years in this business, animal health and agriculture have never been more relevant or had more opportunity to impact our customers and society at large.”
As a dedicated animal health company, Simmons said Elanco has strengthened its customer focus and advocacy efforts in two ways: delivering innovation and portfolios for customers that meet their challenges, and elevating the public conversation on the critical role healthy animals play in the health of people and the planet.
Over the past year, the company has added new innovations to its pipeline in the areas of vaccines, enzymes and companion animal therapeutics.
Additionally, Elanco’s most recent announcement to acquire Bayer’s animal health business strengthens and accelerates the company’s IPP strategy. Elanco’s strong focus on greater speed, agility and the ability to allocate its investments has helped customers face their toughest challenges, Simmons said.
The company also has established Elanco’s Healthy Purpose, its new corporate social responsibility (CSR) framework, which is focused on animals, people and the environment and enabling the company to realize its vision of Food & Companionship Enriching Life. The CSR underscores Elanco’s belief that healthy animals are key to solving some of the world’s most pressing issues, such as food security and nutrition, human health and well-being and environmental sustainability.
As a central part of Elanco’s commitment to addressing these issues, the company has launched a call to rediscover the power of healthy animals. The effort is designed to put the importance of helping animals lead healthier lives front and center in critical conversations about food and nutrition security, human emotional and physical well-being and the sustainability of the planet.
“Our business is built on the belief that animals are the X factor society has been looking for -- the unexpected, game-changing variable that we believe will unlock solutions to seemingly disconnected issues. Healthier animals, from cats to cows, are pivotal to our mental health, physical health and the health of our planet. It’s time we rediscovered and leaned into the benefits of pets and protein on a healthy lifestyle,” Simmons said.
Elanco is a global animal health company that develops products and knowledge services to prevent and treat disease in food animals and pets in more than 90 countries.
