Court dismisses all claims in Iowa water quality case

Farmers cannot be liable for runoff from their farms as point-source polluters under Clean Water Act.

The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Iowa dismissed all of the claims the Des Moines Water Works made in its lawsuit against the boards of supervisors in Sac County, Buena Vista County and Calhoun County, Iowa. The ruling is the final nail in the coffin for a multiyear, multimillion-dollar fight to try to hold farmers accountable for what runs off their farms.
