China bans Canadian pork, beef imports

Canadian officials discover counterfeit certificates after China finds ractopamine residues in pork.

China currently requires all imported pork to be free of ractopamine, which limits the supply, especially given the significant outbreak of African swine fever in the country. Canada was expected to fill China’s pork void, but China has now banned both pork and beef imports from Canada after Chinese Customs authorities discovered ractopamine residues in a batch of pork shipments.
