Arm & Hammer prepares industry for FDA guidance

Resources aim to help producers find long-term solutions.

In June 2021, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) finalized guidance for industry (GFI) #263, a directive that recommends sponsors of “medically important” antimicrobial drugs that are currently approved with over the counter (OTC) marketing status voluntarily switch to Rx status. To better prepare the animal and food production industries for the shift, Arm & Hammer has released a series of #ScienceHearted resources.

While guidance #263 isn’t slated for final implementation until June 11, 2023, many products will start disappearing from store shelves prior to that date. Arm & Hammer Animal and Food Production’s resources aim to help producers find long-term solutions before once relied on products are no longer readily available.

“Our commitment to the industries we serve runs deep,” said Ben Towns, global business director. “Through our platforms like The Dish and Food Chain Chats, we provide #ScienceHearted resources that aim to better the lives and operations of those we serve. Now that we’re halfway through the two-year timeline set by the FDA, we’re making sure producers are equipped to handle the changes on the horizon.”

On Food Chain Chats, Arm & Hammer Animal and Food Production’s podcast, experts across the industry share their insights in lively discussions with host Andy Vance. Producers looking for information on guidance #263 can tune in to Navigating New Regulations on Over-the-Counter Antibiotics with guest Dr. Joel Pankowski and Non-Antibiotic Solutions for Health & Productivity with guests Dr. Sangita Jalukar and Dr. Ben Saylor.

On The Dish, Arm & Hammer Animal and Food Production’s blog, producers will find relevant articles such as Finding the Right Health Solutions for Your Operation by Dr. Sangita Jalukar and Preparing for New Regulations on Over-The-Counter Antibiotics by Dr. Joel Pankowski.
