There were no real surprises in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s latest “Quarterly Hogs & Pigs” report. The U.S. inventory of all hogs and pigs on Sept. 1, 2019, was 77.7 million head, a 3% increase from the same quarter last year and a 3% increased from the June report. The number was the highest Sept. 1 inventory of all hogs and pigs since the estimates began in 1988. It was also in line with pre-report estimates.
