Total pounds of beef in freezers down 12% from same time last year.

The total chicken, turkey, pork and beef supply in cold storage as of June 30 was 2.85% lower than last year, at 2.39 billion lb., according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's latest “Cold Storage” report.

Frozen poultry supplies, at 1.38 billion lb., were 4% higher than the prior month but 5% lower than a year ago. Total stocks of chicken were at 836.22 million lb., up slightly from the previous month but down 6% from last year. Turkey supplies in freezers totaled 538.77 million lb., up 9% from last month but down 4% from June 30, 2018.

Total red meat supplies in freezers were 1.06 billion lb., down 2% from the previous month and down slightly from last year. Total beef supplies in freezers were 394.53 million lb., down 3% from the previous month and down 12% from last year. Frozen pork supplies totaled 622.37 million lb., down 1% from the previous month but up 11% from last year. Stocks of pork bellies were down 12% from last month but up 6% from last year.

Total natural cheese stocks in refrigerated warehouses on June 30 were 1% lower than the previous month and 1% lower than June 2018. Butter stocks were 4% higher than May but 3% lower than last year.
