Red meat, poultry in cold storage higher than last year

Pork supplies 13% higher and beef 7% lower than last year.

Total red meat supplies in freezers were down 2% from the previous month but up 2% from last year, at 1.09 billion lb. Total beef in freezers was 480.4 million lb., up 3% from the previous month but down 7% from last year. Frozen pork supplies, at 574.9 million lb., were down 6% from the previous month but up 13% from last year. Stocks of pork bellies were up 14% from last month and up 40% from last year.

Total frozen poultry supplies on Nov. 30, 2019, were down 10% from the previous month but up 1% from a year ago, at 1.22 billion lb. Total stocks of chicken were up 4% from the previous month to 991.5 million lb., which was also 7% higher than last year. Total turkey in freezers was down 42% from last month to 226.8 million lb. This was also down 17% from Nov. 30, 2018.

Total natural cheese stocks in refrigerated warehouses on Nov. 30, 2019, were down 1% from the previous month and down 2% from Nov. 30, 2018. Butter stocks were down 23% from last month but up 17% from a year ago.
