NOVUS, the leader in intelligent nutrition, continues to add more expertise and experience to its dairy team in the United States.

Tami Smith is serving as ruminant sales manager, using her expertise in nutrition, formulation, on-farm dairy practices, and industry-specific software to support customers in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast states. Meanwhile, Juan Rozo joined the team as sales manager for the Pacific Northwest region.

Raised on a dairy farm and experienced in nutrition management and feeding programs for large dairies, Rozo understands that herd health coupled with volatility in the milk and commodity market are challenges for his customers. Finding solutions isn’t a simple task.

“Adjustments in the feed management can make a difference in cow health and production, improving the farm performance and the bottom line,” he said. “Understanding the farm’s goals and challenges is vital in offering solutions that can work for their unique situation.”

Smith too said she aims to create opportunities for customers that optimize milk yield and component production to help them meet their financial goals.

“As with most areas of the country, the primary challenge for dairy farmers is maintaining their profitability while meeting/exceeding industry guidelines,” she said. “This includes maximizing saleable products (milk, milk components), cow comfort, and ensuring a reliable labor force. NOVUS solutions are shown in the field to bring a return on investment through increased milk components and health benefits.”

Smith also acknowledged that the C.O.W.S. Program, an on-farm assessment program that NOVUS has offered to customers in North America for over 10 years, provides management insights that can make a difference in cow comfort and performance. She said the program goes beyond what customers expect from a feed additive company.

“My role is to make sure our customers and prospects know how to best use our products and services and take advantage of the knowledge the dairy team brings to the industry,” she said.

Before joining NOVUS, Rozo served as product manager and business development manager at ITK Inc., was a dairy consultant and nutritionist for clients in Colorado, Arizona and Idaho; and worked at Aurora Organic Dairy as in house nutritionist and then director of operations in Colorado and Texas. He earned his degree in animal science from Universidad Nacional de Colombia in South America. He is a member of the American Dairy Science Association and the Dairy Calf and Heifer Association.

Smith previously worked at BESTMIX Software as senior sales executive for North America, at Adisseo as Northeast ruminant business manager, and at Neogen as animal protein account manager. She earned her bachelor’s degree in animal science at the University of California, Davis (U.S.) and her master’s degree in animal science at Washington State University (U.S.). She is a board member of the Dairy Girl Network and a committee member of the Blair County Dairy Promotion in Pennsylvania.
