Dr. Marcos Marcondes recently joined Miner Institute in Chazy, N.Y., as a research scientist. His primary research focus will be dairy nutrition.

Marcondes comes to Miner from Washington State University, where he has been an assistant professor for nearly four years. He has his bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees in animal science from the Federal University of Viçosa-Brazil. He was a visiting scholar at Texas A&M University before going on to earn his doctor of science and then did a post-doctoral appointment in dairy economics at University of Florida-Gainesville.

Marcondes’ research interests include dairy calf and heifer nutrition and economic feasibility. He said he’s looking forward to joining the research team at Miner Institute as well as the outreach component of his role and networking with regional dairy farmers and professionals in the dairy industry.

With ongoing education programs throughout the year, Marcondes will still be involved in mentoring and teaching undergraduate and graduate students. “It’s the best of both worlds,” he said.

Miner Institute president Heather Dann added, “With a strong background in dairy nutrition and management, Dr. Marcondes is set to bring fresh ideas to our research team and innovative solutions to the farmers we serve.”
