The Farm Credit Administration (FCA) has selected Sandi Walters as its new chief financial officer and director of the Office of the Chief Financial Officer. She succeeds former CFO Steve Smith, who retired on Dec. 31, 2021.
Walters was selected to her new role after serving as acting CFO and acting director of the Office of the Chief Financial Officer since the FCA board appointed her to those positions on Jan. 31, 2022.
“I am pleased that Sandi has accepted the board’s offer to serve as FCA’s new CFO,” said FCA Board Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Glen Smith. “Her many years of financial, managerial, and leadership experience and her understanding of FCA’s operations will allow her to hit the ground running and be a major asset to this organization for many years to come.”
FCA Board Member Jeff Hall commented, “Since joining the agency as acting CFO in January, Sandi has demonstrated great leadership and strategic focus. Having served for many years as a senior financial manager in the federal government, she brings valuable insight to the agency’s senior management team.”
Walters served as the finance officer of the U.S. Census Bureau for five years and as deputy CFO, and later as CFO, of the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration for eight years. She also worked for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration for more than 12 years, serving first as chief of the Accounting Operations Division and later as chief of the Business Management Fund Division.
Walters holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Maryland and an MBA from the University of Baltimore. She is a certified public accountant.
