West Coast groups set date for early contract talks

Current labor contract does not expire until July 1, 2019.

The Pacific Maritime Assn. (PMA) and the International Longshore & Warehouse Union (ILWU) announced in a joint statement Sept. 27 that they have agreed to discuss the concept of a labor contract extension.

The talks have been tentatively scheduled for Nov. 1- 2, 2016. The current contract covering 29 West Coast ports does not expire until July 1, 2019, but stakeholders have been encouraging early negotiations between the two groups.
