U.S. needs Japan in TPP talks

Japan's elections important for determining if country will adopt a pro-trade agenda.

DURING a Dec. 9 hearing, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack was asked at what point the U.S. will decide to conclude the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) talks without Japan because of Japan's insistence on excluding certain commodities from the agreement.

Vilsack replied that he still believes there is a "pathway to a solid, quality, high-standards agreement that includes Japan."
