U.S., Brazil end WTO cotton dispute

While current farm bill is in place, Brazil agrees not to impose countermeasures or further dispute cotton case.

A DECADE-OLD dispute between Brazil and the U.S. over cotton programs finally was resolved Oct. 1 with an announcement that the U.S. will provide a final one-time payment of $300 million to the Brazil Cotton Institute and an understanding that Brazil will no longer pursue action against the U.S.

For the last four years, the U.S. has been paying Brazil $150 million per year in lieu of facing retaliatory tariffs or further World Trade Organization ch
