Don't opt out of an upgrade to business software solutions because you dread the task or don't want to risk the downtime. Ask whether you can afford not to upgrade.

I HAVE unfortunately (for you) just completed an interminable "update" on my smartphone, which, for the purpose of this column, will remain brand-anonymous.

What started out as a simple decision to "download now" has turned into an all-day event (I am not kidding) involving four trips to my local wireless carrier's store to decipher error messages and determine how to transfer my contacts, email and other personal peculiarities.
