Struggles face farmers in rural economy

Ag secretary Vilsack testifies 10% of U.S. farms are highly leveraged and also offers insight into next farm bill discussions.

Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack sat before the Senate Agriculture Committee Wednesday in what was his last time before the committee in his seven years as secretary of agriculture and the longest-serving agriculture secretary in 50 years.

Although Vilsack highlighted many of the positive things going on in agriculture and seven straight years of record exports, the reality is that farmers are facing difficult times ahead.
