Soybean stocks shock but fail to make waves

Markets unaffected by latest grain stocks numbers as initial harvest yields confirm record-large crop.

THE September "Grain Stocks" report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) is notorious for containing a corn stocks surprise, Greg Wagner, president of GWX Ag Advisors, said during a recent webinar hosted by CME Group.

Despite its track record, though, soybean stocks stole corn's thunder this year. Still, as many analysts expected, the focus remained on the record 2014 crop harvest underway.
