Smithfield CEO to retire at year-end

SMITHFIELD Foods Inc. announced last week that chief executive officer C. Larry Pope will retire from the company, effective Dec. 31.

Smithfield president and chief operating officer Kenneth M. Sullivan will succeed Pope as CEO.

"It has been an honor and a privilege to lead Smithfield over the past nine years," Pope said. "This planned leadership transition comes at a time of strength and growth for Smithfield."
