Senate confirms senior USDA nominees

Krysta Harden and Robert Bonnie get final approval from full Senate chamber.

The Senate confirmed Aug. 1 President Obama’s nominee for USDA’s deputy secretary of agriculture Krysta Harden and Robert Bonnie as under secretary for natural resources and the environment.

She will succeed Kathleen Merrigan in the second-highest post at USDA.  Harden has served as Secretary Tom Vilsack’s chief of staff and assistant secretary for congressional relations.

Bonnie, who has been a senior advisor to Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, succeeds Harris Sherman.

Earlier in July both nominees were before the Senate Agriculture Committee and received high marks. For more on the nomination hearing, click here.
