Producers should supplement vitamins A, E during drought

Both vitamins typically present in green forage, but when most of diet consists of dry summer pasture or hay, deficiencies are likely.

Producers grazing livestock this summer should consider supplementing vitamins A and E due to drought conditions, said South Dakota State University Extension agriculture and natural resources program director and professor Alvaro Garcia.

"Both vitamins are typically present in green forage; however, when most of the diet consists of dry summer pasture or dry, bleached hay, deficiencies in both vitamins is likely," Garcia explained.
