Producers should guard against heat stress in cattle

Cattle's upper critical temperature not based off ambient temperature alone but also humidity and evaporation rate.

Many cattle-producing areas of the U.S. experience temperatures that exceed 90°F, providing ample reason for cattle producers to guard against heat stress in their herds.

Earl Ward, livestock specialist with the Oklahoma State University Cooperative Extension Northeast District, reminds producers that cattle’s upper critical temperature is not based off the ambient temperature alone but also the humidity and evaporation rate.
