Philippines temporarily bans China poultry shipments

An outbreak of avian influenza linked to China poultry imports resulted in Philippine government halting shipments.

The Philippine government temporarily halted poultry and poultry products imported from China.

As a result of outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in Heibei province, the Philippine Department of Agriculture poultry meat, banned eggs, day-old chicks and semen from China.

According to the Philippine government, a test conducted by Harbin Veterinary Research Institute confirmed the HPAI subtype H5N2 breakout and was identified in bird species.

At all major ports, veterinary inspectors were instructed by the department to stop all shipments of poultry meat and related products from China.
