Monsanto abandons large-scale M&A strategy

Company says it will focus on R&D and commercial partnerships.

Monsanto chief executive officer Hugh Grant said April 6 on the second-quarter earnings call that the company no longer sees large-scale mergers and acquisitions (M&A) as part of its future strategy.

Grant said the company is focusing on investments with the highest returns, which translates into further research and development (R&D) or commercial partnerships. He added the company no longer considers large-scale M&A as a likely opportunity.
