Milk powder 'brightest spot' for U.S. dairy exports

U.S. exports were equivalent to 12.5% of U.S. milk production in January, down from 14.0% in 2015.

January sales of nonfat dry milk/skim milk powder (NDM/SMP) increased to 42,896 tons, 23% higher than the same period last year, but, according to the U.S. Dairy Export Council (USDEC), the overall value of U.S. dairy exports fell to their lowest figure since 2011.

Alan Levitt, vice president of communications and market analysis for USDEC, wrote in the organization’s blog that NDM/SMP remains the brightest spot in U.S. dairy export performance.
