Manure pit ventilation tool boosts farm safety

AN online tool created by researchers in The Pennsylvania State University College of Agricultural Sciences will enable manure storage pit designers to develop less dangerous facilities, the university explained.

The online tool predicts how long confined-space manure storage needs to be ventilated to remove toxic and asphyxiating gases. This information greatly reduces the risk of fatalities among farmers when entering on-farm manure pits.
