LIVESTOCK MARKETS: Global challenges impeding dairy trade

Economist says several supply and demand factors affecting dairy prices.

Several things are happening in the global dairy economy right now, according to Dr. John Newton, senior director of economic research for the National Milk Producers Federation.

On the supply side, the European Union removed its quota system on milk production as of April 2015. Through January of 2016, EU dairy farmers have subsequently added approximately 10 billion lb. more milk to the global dairy market.
