India to appeal WTO poultry ruling

Appeal would set up 90 days for WTO to consider merits of India's ban on U.S. ag products.

IN November 2014, a World Trade Organization panel sided with the U.S. in a dispute challenging India's ban on various agricultural products such as poultry meat, eggs and live pigs. New reports indicate that India now plans to appeal the decision.

India placed a ban on U.S. poultry products in 2007 under the guise of preventing low-pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI), but it produced no scientific evidence to support the ban's validity.
