House passes barge user fee increase

Bill includes industry-supported 9-cent tax increase on diesel fuel barge companies to fund waterway improvements.

CONGRESS passed the Water Resources & Development Act earlier this year but was unable to secure a tax increase on diesel fuel barge companies, which users support as a way to increase funding for waterway projects.

Last Wednesday, the House passed H.R. 647, the Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act, by a 404-17 vote.
