FEED manufacturer J.D. Heiskell announced March 5 that it has ended a two-year joint venture with Purina Animal Nutrition and will absorb the business into Heiskell's California-based operations.
The two feed companies formed Golden State Feed & Grain in August 2010, operating two mills geared toward serving dairy customers in the San Joaquin Valley of California (Feedstuffs, Aug. 30, 2010).
Heiskell chief executive officer Ryan Pellett said his company purchased Purina's 50% interest in Golden State and will transition all employees and products of the former joint venture back under the Heiskell banner over the coming months. He added that customers should not notice any change in their business relationship aside from the name of the company.
Golden State produces mixed feeds, rolled grains, mineral mixes, commodity blends and a variety of animal health and nutrition products. Rick Bowen will continue to serve as general manager of the operation under the Heiskell brand.
Heiskell is one of the largest privately held companies in the U.S., according to Forbes, and is headquartered in Tulare, Cal.
Purina Animal Nutrition is a wholly owned subsidiary of Land O'Lakes Inc. based in Shoreview, Minn.
