FDA bans imports of GE salmon

FDA ordered to block imports of GE salmon until the agency issues final guidance requiring food derived from GE salmon to be labeled.

Just months after approving genetically engineered (GE) salmon, the Food & Drug Administration issued an alert banning the import of it.

The action brings the agency into compliance with the fiscal 2016 omnibus spending bill, which the President signed into law in December.

A provision in the omnibus bill blocks FDA from introducing GE salmon into the market until it publishes labeling guidelines so consumers are aware of what is contained in the product they are purchas
