Egg producers agree to $8.4m settlement

Lawsuit alleged U.S. egg producers manipulated supply and domestic price of eggs.

U.S. district Judge Gene E.K. Pratter of the eastern district of Pennsylvania has approved a combined $8.4 million settlement in antitrust litigation between five defendant egg producers and direct purchasers — grocery stores, commercial food manufacturers and restaurants — and suppliers.

According to Pratter’s opinion, the litigation is ongoing against other defendants, but Midwest Poultry Services has agreed to pay $2.5 million; Hillandale Farms agreed to pay $3 million; NuCal Fo
